Who We Are

Founded as a public Facebook Group in 2007, inkcanada is a grassroots, inclusive writers’ community connecting professional and aspiring Canadian screenwriters and their industry friends online, and off - no matter where we live, work, or study the art.

Screenwriting anywhere can be lonely, confusing, and isolating by design and by discipline. ‘ink’ welcomes diverse voices and visions in perpetual, accessible conversation to tear down the barriers of access to our profession.

‘Inkies’ believe that the best way to make meaningful and lasting changes in our workplaces and practices is by openly sharing our expertise, advice, news & views in free-wheeling forums that are open to just about everyone. We are Film, TV, and Digital creators of all kinds. Our community welcomes students, industry pros, and writers of every kind of screen-based format. We live and work all over Canada, and around the world.

inkcanada is not a business, organization, or any one person in particular: our efforts are run on our free hours collectively, and our shared passions for paying it forward and tearing down the walls between us.

Pros of all kinds volunteer their contributions informally, to close the gaps we all contend with every day — geography, culture, race, the dominant colonial languages, lived experience, gender, equity, and economics by sharing their advice, insights, and extraordinary experiences.

inkcanada is a registered trade name; a step the founding-admin took in 2024 intended to protect the integrity our informal community has built together, and to preserve the spirit of our shared aims for the storytellers who may take it up and on, long after we’re all gone. All rights reserved 2024.
